The QUT workshop program offers a unique way for students to explore a study area. Students can write their own code, or program their first Arduino project diving into the world of mechatronics and computer science;  create their first advertising campaign and get a taste of the world of business; or step into a moot court to practice real-world legal skills. We use content and experiences linked to the Australian Curriculum and the capabilities and skills framework and QUT discipline leaning outcomes.

Our workshops are half-day or full-day events depending upon your workshop of choice. Schools can request a booking for one of the following options:

  • one half-day workshop (approximately 2.5 hours)
  • two half-day workshops run on the same day (full-day visit, approximately 5.5 hours including 45 minutes for lunch)
  • one full-day workshop (full day, approximately 5.5 hours including 2 breaks).

As part of your workshop visit to Gardens Point campus, your school group can also add one or more of the following add-on experiences:

  • 30-minute interactive experience at The Cube
  • 30-minute campus tour
  • 60-minute ‘The Future Workforce: Jobs and Skills for the next generation’ workshop
  • 30 minute ‘Work Window’ virtual reality experience.

Find out more about add-on experiences

These supplementary experiences are only available as an add-on to a high school engagement workshop, or in conjunction with another QUT activity, for example, a campus tour.

Workshops and supplementary activities require a minimum class size of 16 students and a maximum of 32 students. If you want to bring more students, email the QUT High School Student Connections team at highschool.workshops@qut.edu.au.

Bookings

We’re now fully booked in terms 1 and 2, 2025.

Bookings for workshops in terms 3 and 4 will be opening in term 2.

Due to demand, each school is restricted to a maximum of two visits per semester. All bookings are tentative and subject to the availability of university space and presenters.

Students do not need to prepare anything before attending our workshops. For full-day visits, there is a 30-45 minute lunch break. Students can bring their own lunch or buy lunch from one of the food outlets on campus.

While the workshop is fully-funded by QUT, schools are responsible for organising their own travel to and from QUT. See our Gardens Point campus map for directions.

The QUT Student Inclusion team is excited to offer a one-off grant per school of $100 per person, for schools in rural, regional, and remote communities, and for schools with an ICSEA of under 1000, to support the cost of a visit to QUT's Brisbane campuses in 2025. For more information and contact details, visit the student inclusion webpage.

Before booking your workshop, read the health and safety guidelines and the workshop terms and conditions.
