Each year, the Faculty of Law acknowledges its top performing students from the School of Justice and School of Law.
This year the Faculty of Law presents a video address from Professor Dan Hunter as the physical event has been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The Faculty of Law would like to congratulate over 100 students for their outstanding achievements in 2019.
Students with the best performance in each unit within the School of Justice and School of Law for the 2019 academic year are recognised as well as those who remained highly engaged within their communities and have performed well in their extra-curricular activities.
With the support of a diverse range of sponsors that include community organisations, industry bodies, law firms, family trusts and individuals, some students are the fortunate recipients of additional prizes.
The Faculty is also pleased to announce in memory of Professor Des Butler, the inaugural QUT Faculty of Law Founders’ Des Butler Memorial Scholarship and a new prize for the top performing student in LLB202 Contract Law of $5,000.
Des Butler’s father Allan Butler shared:
“My son, spent his life at QUT creating and refining his methods of using virtual life scenarios in law, which make teaching and learning a more interesting experience.
It is important to our family to encourage that his methods are not forgotten, and that these more modern teaching methods, are taken up by others. We believe that these projects have played an important part in bringing out the best in his students.
Knowing the importance that Des placed on rewarding outstanding effort and achievement, our family feels that it is important for us to support and reward these overachievers and sincerely hope that the recipients, particularly the award in Contract Law, continues to maintain these high standards and that the future reflects this outstanding effort.”
The Faculty aims to continue to support law and justice students in their studies, encourage students’ personal academic potential, and provide opportunities to engage with industry and community sponsors.
