QUT’s design class of 2023 has launched a new website to showcase their talents to industry and all lovers of great design.
Around 170 students studying fashion, industrial design, interaction design and visual communication showed off their collections and projects at end-of-year events in Brisbane in November.
Their work is now permanently on display at 2023.qutdesignfestival.com.au.
The site includes amazing photos, videos and back stories to their designs.
The 2023 QUT Design Festival, which was supported by Brisbane BMW, included two major events – an Interaction and Visual Communication Design Showcase that attracted 400 industry members, family and friends, and a Fashion and Industrial Design Showcase with 700 attendees.
Outstanding students were also recognised with awards from industry and ‘people’s choice’ awards, including:
- Michelle Waller, People’s Choice Award for Visual Communication for Kaeru, a ‘big sister’ mascot and brand design
- Emily Bell, Design Institute of Australia Award for Visual Communication for NXDE skincare and beauty line brand design
- Jessica Bui, People’s Choice Award for Interaction Design for Hyperdimension AR, an interactive merchandise concept featuring animated illustrations
- Jisoo Lee, Romeo Digital Award for Interaction Design for Bridgie, a digital parenting app duo aimed at kids and parents

The graduating designers will also be among more than 4000 QUT students attending the university’s end-of-year graduation ceremonies at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from December 15 to 21.
The design students’ ceremony is scheduled for December 20.
The Head of the QUT School of Design, Professor Lisa Scharoun, said people interested in studying design at QUT could learn more about degree options by exploring the QUT website and attending open days each year.
“We offer a Bachelor of Design with four majors to choose from, as well as the Bachelor of Creative Industries, and double degrees that combine design with business, engineering or IT,” she said.
“Our Bachelor of Design – International is also an amazing opportunity to combine your degree with a year of overseas study at one of QUT’s international partner universities in the UK, Sweden, Denmark, Hong Kong, the US and Canada.”
The QUT Real Decisions webinar on December 15 will also provide an overview of studying at QUT, including admission pathways, the offers process, support services and a Q&A opportunity with current students.
