What you'll receive

You'll receive:

  • a scholarship of $5,000 for one year, paid in two instalments of $2,500.

This scholarship is offered in Semester 1 each year.

Eligibility

You must be one of the following:

  • an Australian citizen (including dual citizens)
  • a permanent resident of Australia
  • a permanent humanitarian visa holder
  • a New Zealand citizen.

You must also be:

  • female
  • from a low-income background
  • experiencing financial hardship
  • enrolled in or applying for one of the following:
    • any undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Health
    • a Bachelor of Science, majoring in biological sciences or chemistry
    • a Bachelor of Biomedical Science
    • a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science
    • a Bachelor of Justice
    • a Bachelor of Human Services/Bachelor of Justice double degree.

This scholarship is not available to:

  • single-unit study students - studying an individual unit at QUT, but not enrolled in a QUT course
  • cross-institutional students - enrolled in a course at another university, but studying specific units at QUT and receiving credit towards your course at the other university
  • QUT College students - studying one of the pathway programs offered by our international college, including foundation courses, university diplomas and English language courses.

What happens next?

All applications are assessed against selection criteria. We allocate scholarships based on need. Students with the greatest need will receive the highest value scholarships.

Conditions

This scholarship is open to female students only.

You must be enrolled in the semester you applied for and studying towards one of the eligible courses. Before we pay your scholarship, we will check your enrolment status to ensure you are still enrolled and eligible.

About the scholarship

The Learning Potential Fund provides support through scholarships and bursaries to students in financial need.

The Dr Cherrell Hirst Learning Potential Fund Scholarship was established by Dr Cherrell Hirst as a tribute to her family.

The scholarship aims to encourage disadvantaged and low-income female students to undertake an undergraduate degrees in health, science or justice.
