Scholarship details
What you'll receive
- You'll receive a QUT Postgraduate Research Award (QUTPRA) or Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship of $33,637, full-time, tax exempt and indexed annually, for a period of three years plus six months extension, subject to satisfactory progress.
- You will also receive a tuition fee offset or sponsorship that covers the cost of your tuition fees for four years (full-time equivalent) of your doctoral studies.
- As the scholarship recipient, you will have the opportunity to work with a team of leading researchers, to undertake your own innovative research in QUT's Faculty of Science.
Eligibility
You must:
- be either a domestic student, an onshore international student or an offshore international student who already holds study rights to study a PhD in Australia
- meet QUT's academic and English language entry requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy (IF49)
- hold an Australian equivalent bachelor degree with honours or a master degree with 25% research, in a discipline of relevance to the research topic
- be applying to study full-time and at a QUT campus (internal study mode)
- start your research degree by the end of September 2025
- not have secured an external sponsorship (e.g. from government, other funding body or current employer)
- not have secured an internally funded scholarship (e.g. scholarship from supervisor, school, or faculty) unless it has been explicitly identified as a bridging scholarship
- have a proposed project in at least one of the priority areas of:
How to apply
You must submit an expression of interest (EOI) prior to applying for this scholarship. The closing date for submission of your EOI is 31 March 2025.
How to apply for a research degree
You must:
- submit an expression of interest (EOI), which includes a draft research proposal by 31 March 2025
- indicate that you are applying for a 'Faculty of Science Targeted Scholarship' at question two in the financial details section of the application form
- have a commencement date no later than 30 September 2025.
What happens next?
Applicants invited to part two of the application process will be contacted directly to create an updated research proposal to submit.
Conditions
The conditions for retaining the scholarship are set out in the rules of the:
- QUT - QUT Postgraduate Research Award (QUTPRA)
- QUT - Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend Scholarship
- QUT - Research Training Program Fees Offset (RTPFO)
- QUT - Tuition Fee Sponsorship (TFS) for research students.
If a student receives a conditional offer (for example, conditional on completion of a master degree or honours degree), conditions must be met prior to commencement.
If a new student visa is required, all conditions need to be met prior to receiving your confirmation of enrolment letter which is needed for visa purposes. Ensure sufficient time is available to obtain a visa and start your course prior to the end of September 2025.
About the scholarship
The Faculty of Science is calling for applications from domestic, onshore international or offshore students (who already hold study rights in Australia) in the priority areas of:
- earth and atmospheric sciences
- materials science
- agriculture and bioeconomy
- energy transition
- resilience
- data science.
Six PhD scholarships are available. Once exhausted, no further scholarships will be available until the following year.
