What you'll receive
You'll receive a scholarship valued at $5,000, paid over two years.
You'll also receive additional benefits including:
- automatic membership to the QUT's College of Excellence and Elite Athlete Program
- access to personal and professional development opportunities including industry sporting programs
- access to nutrition and sports psychology services
- membership to the Esports Academy Development Program (esports discipline only).
Eligibility
To be considered for a Rising Sport Scholarship, you must:
- be an Australian citizen
- be a new or continuing QUT student
- be representing either an Australian state or national sporting organisation in a sport recognised by Sport Australia
- submit a sporting curriculum vitae providing an overview of sporting achievements over the past 24 months (including event placing and results)
- provide a confirmation of performance level:
- if undertaking sports, you must provide a letter from a relevant sporting body verifying your performance is equal to or above one of the following:
- a level of performance development equal to a Talent 4 (T4) Athlete Categorisation utilising Sport Australia’s FTEM framework
- minimum of a current ‘Emerging’ Athlete Categorisation with written verification from your national sporting organisation (NSO), state institute or state academy support network (SIS/SAS), or national institute network (NIN)
- written confirmation that you've represented at national or international level in an emerging or recognised sport that can be unfunded in the national sporting model.
- if undertaking sports, you must provide a letter from a relevant sporting body verifying your performance is equal to or above one of the following:
Representing esports
To be considered for a Rising Sport Scholarship (esports), you must:
- be an Australian citizen
- be a new or continuing QUT student
- be a professional player league in an internationally recognised esports game discipline
- have a minimum of Rank Gold in League of Legends
- provide your League of Legends account name, rank and results from previous tournaments, contested to verify your level of in-game competitiveness.
If you are applying for a Rising Sport Scholarship (esports), you must participate in a performance trial in early February 2025. Trials are held within the League of Legends game discipline, with the successful outcome of admittance to the QUT Esports Academy.
More information, including trial dates, will be distributed to eligible applicants in February 2025.
How to apply
To apply, you must supply a sporting curriculum vitae (CV) to verify selection and any results and achievements. You CV should include:
- a cover letter telling us about your background, reasons for application and future sporting goals
- an overview of events competed at in reverse chronological order (e.g. 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021)
- any placing or ranking information (esports only)
- copies of team selection letters (on official letterhead)
- references from professional esports teams (if applicable).

Apply for a 2025 QUT Sport Scholarship
By submitting this application, you will be considered for all QUT Sport Scholarship offerings unless otherwise indicated in your application form.
What happens next?
We'll make scholarship offers from February 2025.
Due to the large volume of applications received, we'll only notify students who are successful in being offered a scholarship or invitation to trial (esports only).
We won't consider appeals for unsuccessful applications. All decisions are final and based on the original application submitted.
Conditions
To keep your Rising Sport scholarship, you must:
- maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 or higher in each semester
- represent QUT at a minimum of two targeted events or appearances each year, which may include:
- speaking at QUT Sport events
- contesting the National University Championships (if your sport is contested)
- participating in other campus events
- participating in esports competitions (if representing esport).
You can:
- take approved leave of absence from your course in accordance with the QUT Leave of Absence policy. Scholarship payments will be suspended during periods of leave
- concurrently receive a QUT Equity Scholarship, if eligible.
You can't:
- defer your scholarship offer. If you defer your course, you will need to reapply again next year

QUT is proud to support developing and elite athletes across a wide range of categories by offering sport scholarships annually for both new and existing QUT students. This includes talented sports and esports athletes who are still developing and progressing in their chosen sport through to high-performance level athletes representing Australia at national and international levels.
