Six QUT educators in the fields of health, law and creative industries have been awarded citations for their outstanding contributions to student learning at last night's 2024 Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) ceremony.
The annual awards celebrate the exceptional contributions of educators who have demonstrated excellence in teaching, leadership, and enhancing the student experience across higher education in Australia.
Citations recognise and reward the diversity of contributions made by individuals and teams to the quality of student learning in a specific area of responsibility over a sustained period.
Categories include Natural and Physical Science, Agriculture, Environmental and Related Studies, Engineering, Information Technology, Architecture and Building, Health, Education, Business, Management and Commence, Society and Culture, and Creative Arts.
The QUT citation recipients were:
The Nursing COMPASS program team includes Adjunct Associate Professor Joanne Ramsbotham, Dr Helen Donovan, Mr Rob Johnson and Adjunct Associate Professor Karen Theobald – School of Nursing, Faculty of Health
- Nurturing new nurses: building professional literacy skill success for non-English speaking background nursing students at Nursing COMPASS, a large-scale, equitable and accessible peer learning program.
Dr Samuel Roach – School of Law, Faculty of Business & Law
- Facilitating equitable access to work-integrated learning for law, business, justice and criminology students by systematically dismantling barriers.
Paul Van Opdenbosch – School of Creative Arts, Film, Screen & Animation, Faculty of Creative Industries, Education & Social Justice
- For pioneering emerging technology in film and animation production practices enabling students from multiple disciplines to collaborate in filmmaking that mirrors industry approaches.
Professor Robina Xavier, QUT Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice President Academic, congratulated the three and said the honour was well deserved.
“It is wonderful to see QUT academics from multiple faculties recognised again for their teaching excellence in this highly competitive national award scheme,” Professor Xavier said.
“Transformative education and student experience are key to QUT’s mission and these awards again demonstrate how we deliver that every day.”
The AAUTs were established in 1997 by the Australian Government to celebrate and reward excellence in university teaching.
