Don’t stop believing in your dreams
Initially I decided to go to Australia for six months to learn English as I see it very important for my career to know a second language. I completed the English for Academic Purposes at the QUT College which really gave me a good start and prepared me to enter into further studies at university. Studying at the College was a great start to my study journey as I met many people from different cultures and backgrounds which made it a fantastic experience.
After I finished my course, I decided to continue studying and doing a Graduate Certificate in Business and Communication. I also like to further my skills in project management as that aligns more with my future goals.
For me it was a dream to study at QUT and now I am fulfilling it. I always believe that fulfilling your purpose and dreams are essential.
Living in Brisbane
Coming to study in Brisbane is one of the best decisions I’ve made. At first it was a bit daunting to move to a new place but people are so friendly and welcoming, so it was easy to settle in. I love the diversity and different cultures that makes up the city. Brisbane has everything with lots of things to do and explore. It’s also close to amazing beaches, rivers, mountains, national parks all with a tranquil atmosphere. I love visiting different places in Brisbane and some of my favourite places are New Farm and Brisbane city.
Working whilst studying
When I came to Australia I started working at Australia Springmount Services in a variety of roles such as Part-Time Cleaner, Day supervisor, Senior Supervisor and now Facilities Manager. It has been great working whilst studying because everything is related to what I’m learning at university and it has been very useful to practice my skills in the real world.
I’m currently working as the Facilities Manager at Arts Queensland looking after places such as Queensland Museum, State Library, Culture Center, GOMA, QPAC and even museums in Ipswich. In my job I use leadership, organisational and problem-solving skills which are all great knowledge I’ve acquired from QUT. When I finish my master’s degree, I'd like to be able to contribute with my experience and skills to develop new ideas and projects and to combine my career as a journalist with my expertise in business and project management.
If you are a current or prospective student, I would encourage you to enjoy and take advantage of all the opportunities that QUT offers you. Seek new knowledge through learning and motivate yourself to be the best.
