Why I decided to go on exchange
I sought an international experience to gain a fresh perspective on the business environment. Additionally, I aimed to improve my English skills, making an exchange semester in an English-speaking country highly valuable. Most importantly, I wanted to connect with people from diverse cultures, and this opportunity has been perfect for that.
What real-world learning looks like at QUT
QUT is a university for the real world offering you practical experience in so many ways. You will connect with people from a range of places, learning about the industry and get exposed to real-world challenges helping you grow as a person and getting you job ready. Keeping an open mind and understanding different perspectives is essential for gaining that real-world experience.
Amazing facilities and resources
QUT fosters a strong sense of connectivity with services like the shuttle bus between campuses and access to digital resources such as Microsoft Office, LinkedIn Learning, Big Interview, and online printing services. This seamless integration makes it easier for students to focus on their studies. Overall, the facilities and services at QUT are impressive and welcoming.
Connecting with new friends through events and clubs
I’ve participated in several university events and engaged with various clubs. Being open to new conversations, asking questions, and showing interest in other cultures are essential for making friends and expanding your network. I even connected with CCM, a Christian movement that welcomes everyone, regardless of their religious beliefs. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, forge friendships, and engage in meaningful discussions that promote understanding and inclusivity.
Student support
QUT events and support services have been invaluable in helping me feel welcome and connected. The university’s strong focus on diversity and inclusion has been important in creating a supportive community. They have opened doors to new opportunities, such as finding friends, discovering great places to eat, and addressing any questions or concerns I have had throughout my exchange experience. Overall, they have made my time here both enriching and empowering.
QUT offers an approachable and excellent support system, all centralised through HiQ, which directs students to the specific departments they need. This makes it easy and convenient to seek help. Additionally, QUT actively promotes academic and personal success through events and resources available on UniHub, recognising that maintaining a balance between work, study, and personal life is essential for success.
I've learned that seeking help is not only acceptable but encouraged. Meeting new people, sharing experiences, and collaborating are excellent ways to network and build connections.
Studying in Brisbane
Brisbane is a nice city to live in, offering a multicultural experience with a relaxing and calm lifestyle. It’s easy to get around with the convenient public transport and people are very welcoming.
