We’re proud to share the story of Andrea Tan, who graduated from QUT’s Bachelor of Creative Industries and found an exciting career with Walt Disney Studios after finishing her studies.
From Singapore to Brisbane
I decided to study in Brisbane as the city offered a slightly relaxing environment compared to other bustling Australian cities similar to my home country, Singapore. I always envisioned a career in marketing and communication. So, I chose to study a Bachelor of Creative Industries at QUT, majoring in Entertainment.
Practical learning
My course was 'real-world' as it maintained a genuine connection to the industry, involving experiences and learnings that were directly applicable to the current professional landscape. At QUT, my modules provided a comprehensive exposure to various industry-related aspects. Our discussions delved into current events in the media and the world, while our projects involved working on actual briefs from industry clients. This dynamic approach mirrored the real-world scenarios we would encounter in a professional setting.
I highly recommend QUT to others based on the valuable learnings I gained and the connections I made. My favourite aspects of the course included the learning and application components, industry project experiences, and the final year capstone project. My course’s capstone projects naturally led to spending quality time with students outside of class, and we continue to stay in touch after graduation.
Exceptional support
I found the level of support provided by the lecturers and tutors to be exceptionally valuable. I initially anticipated a more laid-back and hands-free approach from lecturers and tutors, but I came to appreciate their proactive involvement, especially when managing projects with industry clients. They were readily available whenever assistance was required, whether for assignments or general inquiries.
Beyond university
My passion for films and the entertainment industry perfectly aligned with securing a job at The Walt Disney Company in Singapore. Now, as a Marketing Executive on Disney's content distribution team, I am thrilled to contribute by providing invaluable marketing support to our clients as they showcase our titles on their platforms.
I really enjoy meeting new people and being in such a fun working environment. The characters like to pop in once in a while and it's always a joy to see them - it's like Disneyland! I supported in the launch of Disney+ here in Singapore and across some of the markets in South-East Asia so it is definitely something I am very proud to be part of.
