Why did you choose your course?
In today's data-driven world, the ability to analyse and interpret complex datasets is crucial for making informed decisions that can transform businesses, communities, and lives. Choosing to pursue a Master of Data Analytics (now Master of Data Science) stems from a profound desire to uncover hidden patterns, predict trends, and provide actionable insights. This journey is not just about mastering technical skills but also about cultivating a mindset of curiosity and innovation. I aspire to be at the forefront of data-driven solutions, empowering organisations to make strategic decisions.
I chose QUT because of the university's commitment to providing real-world, industry-relevant learning experiences resonates deeply with my aspirations for practical and impactful education. Furthermore, QUT's vibrant and diverse community fosters an environment of collaboration and inspiration, encouraging students to think creatively and push boundaries.
What does ‘real-world learning’ mean in your course?
To me, 'real world' means practical, hands-on experiences that bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and actual industry practices. In my course, the 'real world' aspect was vividly brought to life through the curriculum which is designed with a strong focus on real-world applications, ensuring that the theories and techniques we learned are directly applicable to current industry challenges. Case studies and projects are often based on actual data and scenarios that provide a practical context to our studies, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
What surprised you about your course?
One aspect of the course that pleasantly surprised me is the exceptional level of support and mentorship provided by the faculty. The professors are not only experts in their fields but also genuinely invested in the success of their students. Their willingness to offer guidance and feedback fosters a nurturing and collaborative learning environment. Additionally, the course's emphasis on networking and building connections within the industry has been invaluable, providing numerous opportunities to engage with professionals and peers alike. This supportive and well-connected environment truly enhances the learning experience, making it both enriching and encouraging for students to reach their full potential.
How did you make friends at university?
Meeting people and making friends on campus was an enriching experience at QUT. I actively participated in student clubs, which provide an excellent platform to connect with like-minded peers who share similar interests.
I joined the Vietnamese Student Association (VietQ) at QUT, and it has been a fantastic experience. Being a part of VietQ allowed me to connect with fellow Vietnamese students and others interested in Vietnamese culture, creating a sense of community and belonging. I particularly enjoyed the cultural events organised by the association, such as Tet celebrations, which provided a wonderful opportunity to share our heritage and traditions with the wider university community. These activities not only strengthened my ties to my culture but also enhanced my leadership and organisational skills as I took on various roles in event planning and execution.
Orientation events are also particularly helpful to meet fellow students from diverse backgrounds right at the start. Additionally, group projects and collaborative assignments in my coursework foster teamwork and allow me to build strong relationships with my classmates. The friendly and inclusive atmosphere at QUT made it easy to approach and engage with others, turning into lasting friendships.
Would you recommend QUT to other international students?
I highly recommend QUT to others. The university's commitment to real-world learning and industry engagement ensures that students are well-prepared for their careers. QUT's state-of-the-art facilities, dedicated faculty, and diverse range of programs provide an enriching educational environment.
