How to customise your qualification

You can build a Graduate Certificate in Education qualification just for you.

You may find that certain units across a multitude of specialisations are of interest to you, and your dream degree blends skillsets across various facets of education. The Master of Education course is flexible and innovative and can be custom designed to your needs.

Option 1: Choose a single specialisation

The advantage with a single specialisation is that you can put a large portion of your studies into a chosen field, while still getting exposure to the supporting study areas that appeal to you most.

Option 2: Choose a pair of specialisations

This option might be best for people who have two areas of expertise they’d like to pursue, or if a pair of specialisations can be used harmoniously in your future career. For example, you may find specialising in both trauma-aware education and inclusive education can help bring out your best in the classroom.

Advanced standing

If you have been awarded 48 credit points of advanced standing, your studies will be tailored to fit within a single year of full-time study. In that case, you will still have an immense amount of control over your study areas.

Across that full-time equivalent year, you will study:

  • 48 credit points of one specialisation (or option units of your choice)
  • 48 credit points of research units, or
  • 36 credit points of research units, plus 12 credit points of option units.

Change your focus

Already a qualified teacher? The Master of Education (School Guidance and Counselling) provides registered teachers with the knowledge, skills and required qualification to become a guidance officer or guidance counsellor in schools from Prep to Year 12.

Master of Education (School Guidance and Counselling)

Guidance officers and guidance counsellors require a diverse range of skills and knowledge and an ability to form strong and productive relationships with students, families, teachers and other professionals and to develop and implement programs that are responsive to the needs of students and schools. The Master of Education (School Guidance and Counselling) is approved by the Australian Counselling Association and graduates are eligible to join the Australian Counselling Association.

Want to pay less to get your qualification? We know that cost is a major factor in your decision to study, that’s why QUT offers courses where you can pay 80 per cent less on your fees for a Master of Education or Graduate Certificate in Education.  QUT has secured more Commonwealth Supported Places for domestic postgraduate students.
