Strength of Materials is an intermediate level unit which investigates how external loading produces internal stresses and strains in a solid body, and the implications of these stresses and strains for components’ strength, stiffness and robustness. Understanding this subject is an essential part of the design process that ensures the structural integrity of various structures, electromechanical devices and mechanisms. When used effectively and this process can result in lightweight, reliable and robust structures. This unit builds on the concepts from the introductory EGB121 - Engineering Mechanics unit. Future units, such as EGB210 - Fundamentals of Mechanical Design, EGB316 - Design of Machine elements and EGH414 - Stress Analysis use the knowledge and techniques developed in this subject extensively.","title-full":"EGB314 Solid Mechanics","title-short":"Solid Mechanics","url":{"current":"https://qutvirtual4.qut.edu.au/group/student/enrolment/units/unit?unitCode=EGB314&year=2025","prospective":"https://www.qut.edu.au/study/unit?unitCode=EGB314","timetable":"https://qutvirtual3.qut.edu.au/qvpublic/ttab_unit_search_p.process_teach_period_search?p_unit_cd=EGB314"},"year":2025,"years":[2024,2025]}
