To be able to effectively transform an organisation, its leadership team must be made aware of (i) what an information system actually is; (ii) how to manage the components of its information systems effectively; and, (iii) how to make informed decisions based on the data present in the information system (which is associated with complex ethical and cultural considerations). The purpose of this unit is to provide insights into how information systems can be effectively leveraged by organisations. Drawing on case studies, concepts related to the following will be discussed: (1) components of information systems; (2) the design cycle; (3) introductory business analytics, and (4) ethical and privacy considerations.
