The unit provides context for the study of contemporary health information issues and the integral role of the health information manager. Information as a strategic, organisational and management resource is discussed and broad appreciation of health information and data management procedures and philosophy is provided. Challenges in collection and reporting of information for specific population groups are discussed.An understanding of concepts and frameworks for assessing information systems will assist HIM students to realise the potential for using technology to effectively understand health information as a valuable resource in the health industry in their future roles as health information managers.
