Students will critically explore concepts of style and genre in music, Western and non-Western musical contexts (including Australian First Peoples music and culture), globalisation, race, gender and sustainability in music, combining theoretical perspectives with creative practice. The unit challenges students to look at music critically and develop their understanding of how the uses and meanings of music are dependent on context. This unit helps students to understand the different roles that music plays in our lives, and how local and global forces shape music production and consumption.","title-full":"KMB127 Music Studies","title-short":"Music Studies","url":{"current":"https://qutvirtual4.qut.edu.au/group/student/enrolment/units/unit?unitCode=KMB127&year=2025","prospective":"https://www.qut.edu.au/study/unit?unitCode=KMB127","timetable":"https://qutvirtual3.qut.edu.au/qvpublic/ttab_unit_search_p.process_teach_period_search?p_unit_cd=KMB127"},"year":2025,"years":[2025]}
