Drawing on interdisciplinary approaches, you will investigate and discuss the various contexts in which music circulates and is made meaningful. The unit explores traditional and contemporary music from a range of cultural contexts (including Australian First Peoples music and culture), providing opportunities to listen critically to music, while using key concepts from sociology, musicology, and cultural studies to discuss identity, culture, and the production and consumption of music. This unit is offered in the developmental stage of your course, and lays the groundwork for understanding why music exists in our lives and how it is placed in the cultural spectrum of music making and the perceived effects of globalisation and localism on music.","title-full":"KMB222 Music and Culture","title-short":"Music and Culture","url":{"current":"https://qutvirtual4.qut.edu.au/group/student/enrolment/units/unit?unitCode=KMB222&year=2024","prospective":"https://www.qut.edu.au/study/unit?unitCode=KMB222","timetable":"https://qutvirtual3.qut.edu.au/qvpublic/ttab_unit_search_p.process_teach_period_search?p_unit_cd=KMB222"},"year":2024,"years":[2024]}
