This unit privileges cultural safety as the preferred model to contemporary health care delivery in Australia. It promotes the position of the contemporary health practitioner as a fundamental member of the partnership with the health care recipient, and thus is necessary to enhancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and well-being. Cultural safety also makes conspicuous manifestations of racism which impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and well-being.
