Taylah Griffin
Gangalu woman. STEM inspiration. Systems engineer.As a proud Gangalu woman growing up in Far North Queensland, Taylah Griffin didn't have much experience travelling by plane and was intrigued by them.
She studied electrical and aerospace engineering, completing internships with Qantas and Boeing. Taylah now works on Wedgetail aircraft as a systems engineer for Boeing Defence Australia.
She's also inspiring other Indigenous young people to study STEM, as a recipient of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tertiary Student STEM Achievement Award, tutor, industry presenter and STEM ambassador.

Our work-integrated learning program offers internships, projects and study tours to global creative hubs from your second year of study. Take the opportunity to get immersed in creative work culture in Australia or overseas.
Internships place you within a professional creative workplace, where you’ll use reflective practice techniques to transform your professional practice. We support over 750 internships each year with organisations like Brisbane Festival, Expressions Dance Company, HASSELL Studios, Queensland Art Gallery & Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) and Brisbane Powerhouse.
Work with our academics on real-world projects and develop your specialisation through practice-based learning. Get experience working in a professional team to create real outcomes on real projects, sometimes in partnership with industry in Australia or around the world. Previous projects include Beijing Dance Festival, Ars Electronica Futurelab Academy, Out of the Box Festival, and Sustainable Design Practices in Bali.
Design
Immerse yourself in a hands-on design environment from your first year at QUT. Our design courses offer a wealth of opportunities, including internships, field trips, work-integrated learning, and real-world design projects. Collaborate with students from other disciplines through the QUT Design Lab to tackle real-world challenges and create innovative solutions.

Professional experience placements are an essential component of our courses. You’ll undertake placements in schools or early childhood settings, alongside professional educators. Take the opportunity to complete your professional experience in South-East Queensland, rural and remote locations in Queensland, or even overseas.
Our connections with the education profession and community organisations provide even more opportunities to get relevant and valuable experience throughout your course.
Health
Gain real professional experience during your degree, as you complete work placement in the interdisciplinary QUT Health Clinics and beyond. Our work placement partners range from small, private practices through to major healthcare service providers in metropolitan areas. Build invaluable experience working with real patients, under clinical supervision, throughout your degree, and network with future employers through placements and industry-partnered learning experiences.
You’ll graduate prepared to start work in any clinical setting or health environment, confident in the skills you’ve built during your course.
Justice
In the justice degree you’ll get the opportunity to apply the knowledge and theory you’ve learnt and put that into practice with Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placements. These units give you the opportunity to work across a range of industries and learn on job skills to help you gain employment. We have partnerships with large employers like RACQ or Suncorp if you are interested in perusing a career in insurance fraud.
If you are looking at crime and corrections careers there are established connections with the Queensland Police or Corrective Services organisations across the state. If it is the intelligence sector you are interested in you can get involved in a placement with the various private and public intelligence groups we partner with. If community support is your area of interest you might work with organisations like Bravehearts, Respect Inc, Australian Earth Laws Alliance or Inspire Youth and Family Services.
In the justice degree, you will also have the unique opportunity to take a placement at an Indigenous justice-focused organisation or take part in the QUT-Cherbourg Project. This will help you to develop skills and apply knowledge in an Indigenous justice context.
Law
Put theory into practice with our work-integrated learning electives - you’ll get important practical experience and earn credit towards your degree. Choose a placement in a legal practice, community organisation, government body or overseas organisation. Our work placement partners are in various fields offer a range of experiences. Past students have studied with Aged and Disability Advocacy Australia, the Crime and Corruption Commission, the Fair Work Commission, the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, Environmental Defenders Office, and the Bhutan National Legal Institute.

Science and engineering
Our innovative work-integrated learning program gives you fantastic opportunities to engage with industry and the workplace while earning credit towards your degree. You’ll network and form important relationships with industry practitioners, consultants and suppliers, as well as building an idea of what your future job will be like day-to-day. You can experience a project from beginning to completion, giving you a holistic understanding of professional practice that will give you a competitive edge when you graduate. In the past, our students have undertaken experience in formula racing, aerospace, international aid and transportation.
In your final year of study, you can connect with the Cooperative Education for Enterprise Development - an industry program that links students with company-based projects. You’ll get academic credit and a scholarship, as well as invaluable industry links and experience. Or, if research is your calling, you can explore your research passion over the summer holidays with the Vacation Research Experience Scheme.
