Kat Dorante
'I originally chose a double degree for employability, and QUT had a great reputation for both law and business, as well as work integrated learning.
I always felt like I’d chosen the right degree but, as I’ve progressed through it, my decision has made even more sense.'
Gain practical experience
At QUT, our law degrees emphasise real-world practice and hands-on learning, which means that you'll develop all the skills you need to hit the ground running after graduation.
Throughout your studies, you'll have the chance to experience real-world professional legal environments through internships, professional placements, and industry projects. These opportunities provide valuable practical experience while also earning you credit towards your degree.
Learn from experts in law
In addition to teaching, QUT also has a number of academics that are currently practicing in the legal industry, like Professor Sharon Christensen, who is the Gadens Professor in Property Law and co-director of the Commercial and Property Law Research Centre in the law faculty.
Professor Christensen has significant professional experience in property sales, leases and other commercial transactions gained through her position as a consultant with Gadens Lawyers and as an author and ongoing reviewer of the Queensland Conveyancing Protocol. She is also an active member of a number of state and national professional bodies, contributing to government submissions and law reform agendas.
Future-focused learning
We prepare graduates to be adaptable to new careers and evolve in a fast-changing world.
Our minor in law, technology and innovation covers how law responds to developments in technology, such as artificial intelligence and big data, and challenges perceptions of what is possible within the law.
World-class facilities
To prepare you for the courtroom, QUT has fully functioning moot courts on campus, giving you the real-world feel of what it will be like post university.
Why QUT Law
'QUT prepares students for the modern world of law. Throughout my law degree, my lecturers and tutors provided modern-day, real-world examples to everything they taught. While we learned about historical law and how that was applied back then, we were also shown how to apply it today. The legal world is constantly evolving and QUT's law degree reflects that.'
'All of QUT's lecturers and tutors are very real-world. I was taught by practising lawyers, barristers, and even policymakers in government. With their expertise, they were able to use real-world examples and provide current context to what they taught instead of relying on textbooks.'
'Witnessing bad practices in the fashion industry inspired me to fight for people who have been wronged. The legal industry caught my attention because I wanted a career that was always evolving and was about protecting and helping people. QUT has given me a great platform to start my legal career with the law graduate entry course. Having already completed a creative industries degree, I am able to complete my law degree in three years instead of four.'
