Bachelor of Architectural Design
QUT is ranked as one of the top 100 universities in the world for architecture and built environment (QS World University Rankings by Subject, 2023), and we are proud to have Queensland’s most in-demand architecture degree.
With a strong reputation in the industry, our graduates are in high demand. The percentage of our graduates who secure full-time employment is among the highest in the country (Graduate Outcomes Survey 2019-2021, ATO), and our graduates have the highest starting salaries of all Brisbane architecture graduates.
You’ll be taught by practising architects with direct industry links, who’ll share valuable insights and opportunities that’ll give you a competitive edge. You’ll also have opportunities to connect with our young alumni who’ve successfully established themselves in the industry.
Throughout your studies, you’ll undertake projects and hone your skills in our advanced design studios and fabrication workshops, where you’ll be guided and supported by our expert technical team. You’ll also work with students from other disciplines to address real-world challenges, just as you would in a real architectural practice.
Throughout your degree, you will undertake architectural design projects with a practical edge which will require you to think logically and creatively about how buildings function and are constructed. You can broaden your mind, education and life experience with real-world field trips and international study tours with partners all over the world.
Bachelor of Built Environment (Honours) (Landscape Architecture)
From sustainable landscape systems to the latest design trends, you’ll learn everything you need to know to create outdoor spaces that have a positive cultural and environmental impact from experienced practitioners working in the field. We are one of Australia’s principal landscape educators and our graduates are leading practitioners employed around the world. Our teaching team employs an ethical commitment to progressive and integrated practice. We pride ourselves on implementing both evidence-based and speculative design underpinned by academic rigour and creativity. Our staff are linked to professional practice to ensure you gain knowledge of emerging trends within industry.
Through our work integrated learning program, you’ll have the option to complete up to 100 hours working on real landscape projects, where you’ll develop the work-ready skills you need to step confidently into your future career. Recent projects our students have worked on include the Brisbane Powerhouse and King Street redevelopments – both significant urban renewal projects that have helped to revitalise Brisbane’s inner city lifestyle.
Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to explore the world and gain international design experience through study tours, or be involved with the community through projects or hands-on design studios.
Careers and outcomes
With a Bachleor of Architectural Design and a Bachelor of Built Environment (Honours) (Landscape Architecture) double degree from QUT, you’ll set yourself up for a wide range of careers.
You may choose to work independently; in small partnerships; or as a member of large multidisciplinary teams with other professionals such as architects, horticulturalists, engineers, urban designers and town planners in either private practice or in government.
You may work on projects involving private or public spaces, such as multi-residential developments, public parks, playgrounds, university and government campuses, shopping centres, golf courses, waterways, public gardens and industrial parks.
Careers include landscape designer, landscape technician, landscape construction technician, or becoming an accredited landscape architect. With international design experience, many graduates enjoy working in overseas practices to create a healthier and more resilient future.
Graduates qualify for membership of the Design Institute of Australia (DIA), the professional body for Australian designers.
To become a registered architect, you’ll need to undertake two more years of training in our Master of Architecture program, and then pass the Architectural Practice Exam once you’ve completed two years of practical experience.
