Real-world experiences in QUT law
What makes our law degree unique is our balance between legal principles and practice. While you study, you could travel overseas on exchange or short-term study tours, participate in mooting, undertake a clerkship or prepare for the modern world of law with our unique law, technology and innovation minor.
Work integrated learning
'Work integrated learning is so important. You’re taking the theory and concepts you’ve learned in the classroom and applying it in a real legal setting. As part of HopgoodGanim Lawyers’ First Nations Startup Pro Bono Clinic, I worked with the pro bono team and other departments, taking part in client interviews, researching, drafting service agreements, and facilitating communication between clients and teams. As a proud First Nations person one of my main goals is giving back to the community, which is something this program has given me the ability to do.'

Law, technology and innovation minor
Our law, technology and innovation minor explores how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics are impacting the legal industry. You'll learn about the legal, ethical, and social challenges raised by these technologies, as well as design thinking techniques that enable you to respond to legal challenges from a human-centred approach.
Unlimited opportunities
'I chose a career in law because of the breadth of opportunities it offers. The study of law provides a chance to develop a diverse range of skills and knowledge, often revealing areas of the field you might not have even known existed. Whether your career path leads to in-house counsel, private practice, government roles, or even positions like barrister or general counsel, law opens doors to countless possibilities. The transferable skills you gain—such as critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving—allow you to take your degree in almost any direction you choose.'

Practical learning
'QUT has prepared me exceptionally well to navigate the challenges of entering the legal industry at a time when new technology is reshaping legal processes. One of QUT Law’s key strengths was the comprehensive approach that went beyond the black-letter law. Each unit exposed me to the reality of the law and legal practice, ensuring not only that I understood the theoretical foundations of the law, but also how to apply these principles in real-world scenarios.'

Real-world experience
'While studying law at QUT, I took part in the clerkship program at two firms, including one at Allens. This was a great experience as it provided insight into the different practice groups available at a firm. I was particularly interested in privacy law, and I was able to expand my knowledge in this area by taking future-focused units such as Law, Privacy and Data Ethics with Professor Mark Burdon. After completing my clerkship at Allens, I was thrilled to receive an offer for a graduate lawyer position within the Technology, Media and Telecommunications team.'

Future-focused
'QUT’s future-focused law degree equipped me with the confidence to navigate the modern world of law. Their innovative units, like Artificial Intelligence, Robots and the Law, and Law, Privacy and Data Ethics, empowered me to tackle emerging challenges head-on and develop unique skills essential in today’s legal landscape.'
Bachelor of Business (Public Relations)/Bachelor of Laws (Honours)
Focused on practical outcomes
'I chose QUT because their law program was progressive and focused on practical outcomes. The modern delivery of coursework gave me the freedom to study at my own pace while balancing multiple jobs throughout my course. Lecturers and tutors helped foster my critical thinking skills, while constantly encouraging me to apply the things I had learnt in a practical manner. This has helped me tremendously in my early career.'
Make a difference
'I am passionate about the law and the legal system. My law/justice double degree will enable me to make a positive difference in people lives by advocating for their rights and interests. I have witnessed a lot of suffering and injustice–I’m Hazara (a minority ethnic group in Afghanistan), so my ethnicity has been persecuted for a very long time. I want to use my studies to make our world a better place.'
