What to expect

The Diploma in Engineering draws on units from QUT's Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree, introducing you to foundational engineering concepts, knowledge and technical skills. Our diploma also has a strong focus on helping you develop the academic skills you’ll need at university, preparing you for successful study.

All units adopt a blended approach to learning. On-campus classes are supported by online activities, helping you to become an independent learner. You’ll benefit from additional contact hours with experienced QUT educators in a close-knit learning environment allowing a more personalised learning experience.

Engage with your peers and experienced educators through a combination of lectures, tutorials and labs in which you have opportunities to:

  • work collaboratively to solve real-world problems

Real-world facilities

This course is taught at QUT College, which is located at QUT's Kelvin Grove campus. The College is where you will spend most of your time going to classes and getting to know other international and Australian students. You will receive a QUT Student ID card which will give you access to all QUT's outstanding facilities, making you part of the fun and exciting QUT university community right from the start. Our community offers lifestyle and social opportunities, which will help you to enjoy a richer cultural experience.

To progress into QUT's Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) you will need to meet the conditions listed in your offer letter, including:

Advanced Standing

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

After successful completion of Diploma in Engineering, you are eligible for 96 credit points (one year) of advanced standing towards Bachelor of Engineering (Honours).

It will take 3 years to complete the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours):

  • February and July entry with any major.

Other degrees

After successful completion of the Diploma in Engineering you are eligible for 48 credit points (one semester) of advanced standing towards the following degree programs.

It will take 3 years to complete:

  • Bachelor of Property Economics - February and July entry
  • Bachelor of Science - February and July entry
  • Bachelor of Mathematics - February and July entry

It will take 4 years to complete:

Professional recognition

The Diploma in Engineering is designed for students to articulate into the second year of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) award, which is fully accredited by Engineers Australia.

Students who graduate from the Diploma will receive the Diploma award. As the Diploma program is not accredited by Engineers Australia, future employment would be in a para-professional support role. To practice as a professional engineer students will need to complete the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours).

Careers and outcomes

The course is designed as a pathway to undergraduate study in Engineering. Graduates may be employed in entry level positions. The possible careers list below highlight future career opportunities upon graduation from the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours).
