QUT’s Diploma in Entrepreneurship is a pathway program designed to help you successfully progress to the Bachelor of Information Technology.
The Diploma of Entrepreneurship provides a hands-on approach to building your entrepreneurial thinking and gives you tools to problem-solve and develop innovative solutions. Diploma in Entrepreneurship
The diploma component of this double degree is equivalent to the first year of our information technology degree.
You will get involved in QUT’s entrepreneurial ecosystem in your first year. The Diploma in Entrepreneurship strongly focuses on developing academic skills required at university, preparing you for successful study. These core skills are highly valued in any organisation and across all levels of business. You’ll have access to QUT foundry co-working spaces, our entrepreneurs-in-residence, and current or past students who are running their own start-ups.
All units adopt a blended approach to learning. Online activities support on-campus classes, helping you become an independent learner. You’ll benefit from additional contact hours with experienced QUT educators in smaller class sizes, allowing a more personalised learning experience.
Bachelor of Information Technology
The Bachelor of Information Technology allows you to specialise in computer science or information systems. In the computer science major, you will learn to use hardware and software to design and build systems to solve complex problems or issues associated with efficiency, usability and security. You’ll learn how a compelling blend of IT skills and business knowledge shapes industries.
The information systems major focuses on understanding organisational needs to develop transformative initiatives and solutions. You develop expertise in understanding IT capabilities and implications and proficiency in methods, techniques and tools to improve and innovate organisations and their people.

You must complete 96 credit points to meet the course requirements for the Information Technology pathway. Once you have successfully completed the diploma, you will be automatically offered a place in the Bachelor of Information Technology. Your diploma units will be credited into your degree.
Bachelor of Information Technology
The Bachelor of Information Technology structure consists of 288 credit points with:
- core units (96 credit points),
- a major (84 credit points),
- QUT You (24 credit points); and
- complementary studies (84 credit points)
Upon completion of the Diploma in Entrepreneurship, you will complete the remaining 192 credit points of the Bachelor of Information Technology. As part of this course, you must choose a major.

Before you start this course, we assume you have sound knowledge of the subject/s listed below. If you don't have the subject knowledge, you can still apply for the course but we strongly encourage you to undertake bridging studies to gain the knowledge:
- English, or Literature, or English and Literature Extension, or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 & 4, C)

Advanced standing
If you have prior studies or work experience, you may be eligible for advanced standing (credit). You can apply for advanced standing once you've been accepted to QUT. If you're in your first semester of study, you must apply for advanced standing within 10 days of receiving your offer.

You can defer your offer and postpone the start of your course for one year.
