QUT's Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound is designed to be accessible to rural and regional Queenslanders and interstate students seeking a nationally accredited sonography qualification.
This course is offered as a two year, part-time program.
Over its duration, students are invited to attend three, one-week intensive blocks at QUT's Gardens Point campus. To complement their learning, students will access new ultrasound simulators and online interactive resources.
The Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound course gives students the scientific basis for understanding, using and evaluating relevant equipment and techniques as a sonographer.

The graduate diploma takes four semesters of part-time study to complete. All students are invited to attend an intensive one-week block of classes at the beginning of the first three semesters. Students undertake clinical experience throughout the semester and need to maintain access to suitable clinical experience for the duration of the course.

Overseas qualifications
We will consider equivalent overseas qualifications for admissions purposes. If you have tertiary qualifications from countries where English is not the standard language of instruction, you must provide evidence of English language proficiency.
English language proficiency
We require students to demonstrate they can speak, write, read and comprehend academic English to a specified standard.
Our English proficiency requirements for this course are:
- IELTS (Academic): 7.0 or better overall with no subscore below 6.5
- PTE: 65 or better overall with no subscore below 58
- TOEFL (IBT): 98 or better overall with a writing subscore of 24 or better, and no other subscore lower than 20
- Cambridge English Score: 185 or better overall with no subscore below 176
The test must have been completed within 2 years prior to the proposed course start month.

Course requirements
You will need to maintain access to suitable clinical experience for the duration of the course. In accordance with the Australasian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR) Program Accreditation Guidelines, it is recommended students be engaged in medical ultrasound practice for a minimum of three days/week over a two year period, full-time equivalent, in an Australian or New Zealand clinical setting.
