Why choose this course?
Advanced manufacturing is important for the world as it couples manufacturing efforts together to get the most sustainable output. This course prepares you to design, optimise and improve modern manufacturing systems with new technologies that are coming into the market every day to engineer a holistic and circular manufacturing approach.
You will develop important data analytics skills that will provide value to future employers and help you get ahead in your career. The data analytics component of your degree will teach you to turn data into insight and intelligence to drive change and make key decisions. As Australia's top research institution for Data Mining and Analysis, QUT is the best university to learn from expert academics and leading researchers.
This course is designed for engineers with a background in mechanical, medical or chemical and sustainable process engineering looking to upskill or be introduced to the field of advanced manufacturing. You’ll graduate with innovative knowledge and skills in advanced manufacturing, specialising in digital and robotic manufacturing or bioprocess engineering.
Digital and robotic manufacturing
Developments in digital and robotic manufacturing are creating new opportunities for achieving circularity in production systems, minimising waste at industrial scales, integrating net positive environmental technologies, and producing high quality, high value, highly customised manufactured products. Employ advanced specialist technical skills, analysis approaches, design, research, and data to find sustainable solutions to digital and robotic manufacturing problems.
Bioprocess engineering
You’ll learn how to lead projects using sustainable materials and processes such as biofuels and animal-free food production. Imagine and realise change using entrepreneur strategies, advanced design, collaborative decision-making, and innovation in ethical and sustainable ways. Graduates of the bioprocess engineering major will have the skills necessary to work in a range of industries such as energy, biomedical device, food, beverage, chemical, agriculture and pharmaceutical.
Explore this course
Work with industry partners, such as BMW and Boeing, and go onsite to processing facilities to see what it’s like in the real world. You will undertake an industry project where you will critically analyse a client brief and use advanced problem solving, analysis and relevant design skills to achieve the best outcome for the client.
You will also plan and execute a substantial research-based project in your specialist area over two semesters. Your research will be industry-informed and you will be supervised by one of QUT’s leading engineering academics.
Careers and outcomes
This degree will set you up to work in a range of industries including automotive, energy, biomedical device, machines and tools, mining, aerospace, defence, food, beverage, chemical, agriculture and pharmaceutical, and professional services. To practice as an engineer in Australia, you will need to have your bachelor degree recognised by Engineers Australia.
