Lead best-practice patient care
Blessing Makoni’s skills and qualifications enabled her to implement new models of care at the Gold Coast University Hospital, Ipswich Hospital, and Ipswich Hospice. In 2021 she founded Ipswich Nurses to provide palliative care to people living with disabilities in the community.
‘We have broken down barriers and are continuing to do so to ensure this vulnerable group has access to the best palliative care.’
Make a difference
'My role as a nurse practitioner in breast oncology is to provide expert advice, comprehensive care and support of the women and men diagnosed with breast disease. QUT gave me the tools I needed to develop my position and pave the way for other nurses within our organisation. Connections I made through the course helped me with valuable advice in establishing my role and guided me through the obstacles I faced.
In my role I can make a significant difference to patients and the best part of my job are the phenomenal patients I get to meet and care for. Their strength, courage resilience and candour inspire me.'
